"Dogs do speak but only to those who know how to listen." Orhan Pamuk
Owner/Operator of The Speaking Dog.
When it comes to working and being around dogs and people who love dogs, there is nothing I like more. From the youngest puppies to the seasoned canines, I have been working professionally with dogs and pets for over a decade. My passion truly lies with helping people and their dogs build strong, lasting relationships.
After graduating from Penn State's School of Business I continued my education and became a certified dog trainer through the Animal Behavior College, graduating with honors; as well as earning my diploma ,with honors, in the Canine Behavior Science and Technology program at the Companion Animal Science and Technology Institute; learning under renowned behaviorist, James O’Heare. I have earned the title: Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed, through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers; an internationally recognized organization for upholding standards in the professional training industry.
I am a professional member of both the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Pet Professionals Guild (PPG), whose focus is building knowledge and advocating force-free methods in the pet industry. I am also a registered AKC Puppy S.T.A.R and Canine Good Citizen Evaluator as well as a DOGGONE SAFE Dog Bite Safety Educator.
I actively continue to pursue education in the field to ensure I provide the best service possible to my clients.
My husband, Geoff, and I have a son, Hunter, and daughter, Kate. We have two wonderful dogs in our family: Joey and Sunny, and feisty little kitty, Milo as well. Joey has been with me from the beginning. He has been a driving force in my career and assists in many ways with my training programs. He is one of the reasons The Speaking Dog Training Co., LLC came to be and is the best employee I could ever ask for! Sunny is our newest addition but promises to be an outstanding member to our family and the SDTC team.
So thank you for learning about The Speaking Dog Training Co., LLC. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you and your wonderful companions in the future!
The Speaking Dog Training Co.’s philosophies and methods stem from pairing the right combination of proven, science based methods with an understanding of how dogs communicate. We strive to create lesson plans and training activities that are easy to follow for both our clients and their dogs. Training should not be stressful for the dog or handler. Designing activities and working in a positive environment ensures everyone leaves feeling confident and empowered. Solely force-free methods are used in all of our training programs so your dog learns in a healthy and safe environment and remains eager to participate in training. Every dog learns at his own pace so we will adjust our training activities accordingly to ensure everyone is set up for success!
With small group classes and private sessions available, we ensure clients the ability to choose the appropriate training platform. Small group classes allow us to provide ample attention for each dog and handler while still providing the benefits of a group setting.
Private Sessions and Home Sessions are ideal options for dogs that cannot perform in a group setting or for individuals who would prefer a tailored program to suit their needs.
We invite you to learn more about all of our training options by visiting our Services page.
As active members of both the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) and the Pet Professionals Guild (PPG), we ONLY advocate and employ force-free training methods. We don’t condone or promote any methods that use intimidation, harmful "tools" or force in their practice.
Contracted Trainer for The Speaking Dog
There isn’t a time in my life that a dog hasn’t been present. Currently I have three Labrador Retrievers: Tucker, Bo & Brody. My passion for training and animal behavior took flight because of Bo. We enrolled in a Basic Manners class with Jamie several years ago and I was hooked! We continued to attend classes and Bo earned his Canine Good Citizen certification. I enjoyed training so much that I decided to pursue my professional training certification. I graduated from the Animal Behavior College with honors and began professionally training dogs part-time while working full-time in another industry. Helping dogs and their families build a stronger bond with one another was extremely fulfilling; so much so that I decided to pursue training and animal care as my full-time profession.
I am an active member of the Pet Professionals Guild and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers and through continuing education, I promise to uphold the highest standards of training for my clients. The Speaking Dog Training Co. bases all philosophies and methodologies on scientifically-proven, force-free techniques coupled with a true understanding of canine communication. I am happy to be representing The Speaking Dog with these same methodologies.
When I am not helping clients I love spending time with my family, friends, and my dogs (training and just having fun!). I really enjoy volunteering for CompAnimals Rescue Organization and working with the rescues to help increase their chances for finding their forever homes. I’m an avid gardener, I enjoy kayaking, and I’m a huge Penn State and Philadelphia sports fan!
I love what I do and I hope to have the opportunity to work with you and your best friend in the future!
