We're excited to announce our partnership with New London Veterinary Center to offer in-house canine behavior consultation services exclusively to their clientele starting January, 2025!
A behavior consultation can be incredibly helpful for anyone with questions about their dog's behaviors, preparing to add a dog or puppy into the family, or where to begin with a dog who may be struggling in various areas of life. Behavior consultations are an ideal place to start for those with a dog who may be struggling with stress, anxiety, fear-related issues, or aggressive behaviors.
The purpose of a behavior consultation is to help you understand the WHYs behind your dog's behaviors. We'll discuss actionable items to implement in your dog's routine to set him (and you) up for success to minimize the stress/frustration you (and your dog) may have been feeling. This is the first step to most comprehensive behavior treatment plans.
Sometimes one consultation is all you need to get you and your dog on the right track. Often times, however, it's just the starting point. As sentient beings, dogs have their own internal perspective of the world, their own set of needs, and their own unique learning history. It's crucial all elements of you and your dog's life are considered when creating an effective behavior treatment plan. The consultation is the first step in this plan, but often more detailed and long-term guidance is needed to reach established goals. Our variety of "next step" behavioral services will be reviewed in the event that you and your dog would benefit from continued support.
Complete a comprehensive behavior questionnaire outlining your dog's history, routines, your observed behaviors, and priority concern to address in the consultation. Step 1 is to submit this questionnaire along with the other necessary registration items. I will then review the questionnaire prior to our appointment.
We will then meet at New London Veterinary Center for your 90-minute appointment to review and address your priority concerns. During this time, we will cover as much as possible to get you and your dog on the path to a happier, safer, and lower-stress life. Following our appointment, you will receive an email with any resources on the topics/protocols we covered for you to refer to as you begin implementing them.
2-weeks post consultation, we will have a 30-minute follow-up meeting via Zoom. During this time, I'm looking for updates on how things are going, if any questions are coming up for you, and if any adjustments need to be made. This session will be recorded and emailed to you for your reference. My goal is to ensure you're confident in the activities you're integrating into yours and your dog's daily routines.
Click the button below to complete and submit the behavior questionnaire required for the consultation (you will be directed to another website called, "Hello Bonsai"). Please be as detailed as possible. The more information I have about your dog, your routines together, and your concern, the better.
The button below will take you to my scheduling page on the "Acuity" website. On this page you will be guided to select an available appointment time (please be advised that appointment times are extremely limited and currently only offered one Tuesday per month), prompted to prepay the consultation fee of $299, and review/agree to the client agreement presented. Payment and agreeing to the terms must be completed in order to secure your appointment time.
And that's it! Once these items are completed, I will review your questionnaire in preparation for our appointment together. You will receive an email from me the day before your appointment to prepare you with a few details before coming into the vet office. And if you have any questions, you are always welcome to email me, Jamie Shellington, at info@thespeakingdog.com.
